Draft for the alpha — review with a lawyer before launch.
Privacy at MyPhotoAlbum
MyPhotoAlbum is a shared album for weddings, birthdays and memorials. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and how to reach us.
The short version
- Guests share a name and their photos. Nobody needs an account.
- The family that made the album (the keepers) owns it and decides who looks after it.
- We count visits with our own first-party analytics. Third-party tags run only if we switch them on.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your photos to train AI.
- A family can ask us to delete an album at any time by writing to hello@myphotoalbum.net.
If you add photos as a guest
When you open an album link or scan its QR code, we ask for your name as you would like it shown, and the photos you choose. You can also leave a written memory, wish or blessing. Your phone makes smaller copies of each photo before sending; we store the original and those copies, along with a fingerprint of each photo so the same picture is not added twice.
Your photos and words are shown to the album’s keepers and the helpers and heirs they add. Other guests may see a few recent photos on the upload page. A keeper can hide or remove any photo.
If you make an album
We store the album’s title, occasion, chapters, an optional subtitle and the name you give as its creator. If you add helpers or heirs, we store the name you give them and an email address if you provide one. You manage the album through a private keeper link; opening it on a device sets a keeper cookie on that device.
Analytics: how we learn what works
We run our own first-party analytics on our servers. For each visit we record the pages you view, the page you came from, any campaign tags in the link (such as utm_source), your IP address, your browser and device type, and an approximate country when our host provides one. We also record product events, such as an album being created or a button being pressed. Depending on our settings the IP address is stored in full, shortened, or not at all.
Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel are off by default. If we turn either on, it loads on public pages and that company receives information about your visit under its own privacy policy. Our admin pages are never tracked.
Cookies and browser storage
We use a small number of cookies, all set by MyPhotoAlbum itself:
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| mpa_vid | A random visitor id for our own analytics, so repeat visits are counted once. | 1 year |
| mpa_sid | A random visit (session) id for our own analytics. | 30 minutes of inactivity |
| mpa_utm | The campaign tags (utm_source and similar) in the link you arrived from. | 30 days |
| mpa_k_… | Signs this browser in as a keeper of an album after you open your private keeper link. | 1 year |
| mpa_admin | Signs in our own staff to the admin area. Never set for families or guests. | 12 hours idle |
Your browser also keeps the visitor id and campaign tags in its own storage, so the first moments of a visit are counted together. If Google Analytics or the Meta Pixel are turned on, they set their own cookies.
How long we keep things
Albums do not expire. Photos, memories and album details are kept until the family deletes them or asks us to. Analytics records are deleted automatically after a period we set; it is currently about 13 months, and we may shorten it.
Who else handles your data
We use a hosting provider to run the site and store files. As we grow we may add an email provider, a file storage provider or an AI provider for the Ask AI helper; they would process data only to provide that service to us. We do not sell personal information.
Your choices
- A keeper can hide or remove photos in their album at any time.
- A family can ask for a whole album to be deleted, and a guest can ask for their own photos to be removed. Write to hello@myphotoalbum.net with the album link.
- You can clear or block cookies in your browser; the album still works, though we count visits less accurately.
